  Example :

This video shows that auto pins can be very powerful. If you are moving a member or a view and want members to be pinned to that member or view so that those members move with it, it's generally a good idea to start with auto pins, then double-click a member end that is pinned and review and, if necessary, edit the pin settings that are shown on the Member End Edit window.

VIDEO The selection filter is set to ' Member ends '. A member end whose pins are disabled is selected. The Delete key clears all pin information for that end. Auto Pin adds pins to the end. The auto pin information is reviewed and the member that the end is pinned to is raised by changing its " End elevation ." Pins are adjusted and deleted and the member's elevation is changed again, with different results. (Recorded in SDS2 Detailing , v2017.)

   Step-by-step instructions :

Auto Pin can be used in Modeling to assign pins to member ends that have no pins assigned. The pins that are assigned may constrain the member ends to views or other members, but will not by themselves result in member ends being relocated. You cannot auto pin ends whose pins are " User ." You also cannot auto pin ends whose pins are disabled " Disable member pins on this end ."

1 . Before invoking Auto Pin :

1a (if needed) : If you want to assign auto pins to member ends that are displayed in the " User " color or the " Disabled " color, you can select those ends and press the Delete key to clear those pin settings.

2b : Set the selection filter to ' Member ends ' and draw an area box around the member ends you want to assign auto pins to.

2 . Invoke Auto Pin using one (1) of the following methods in Modeling :

  • On your ribbon, click the Auto Pin icon. If the icon is not currently on your ribbon, you can add it using the Toolbar Editor . In the Toolbar Editor for Modeling , choose Model -- Member > Auto Pin .
  • Use a keyboard shortcut (if one has been set up). Auto Pin is in the keyboard configuration " Command group " called ' Model -- Member '.
  • Use the appropriate mouse binding in the appropriate mode. In Mode Configuration , the tool can be selected from the " Command group " called ' Model -- Member '.

3 . Auto pins are assigned to the member ends that you selected in step 2b if those ends are not user " User " and not disabled (" Disable member pins on this end "). The member type and the member end's framing situation and orientation with respect to grid lines and view planes influence the auto pins that are assigned.
